Team news ahead of Wednesday’s two Premier League games, with Ryan Babel restored to Liverpool’s squad for the clash with Tottenham.(Kick-offs 19:45 unless otherwise stated)
Arsenal vs Bolton
Arsenal will welcome back England forward Theo Walcott and Brazilian midfielder Denilson from injury for Wednesday’s Premier League clash against Bolton at Emirates Stadium.
However, Fran Merida – who scored the second goal in Sunday’s win over the Trotters – misses out with an ankle problem, while Aaron Ramsey (thigh) and Samir Nasri (hamstring) are also both sidelined.
Veteran defender Sol Campbell will need another week’s training before being in first-team contention after officially rejoining the club.
Alex Song and Emmanuel Eboue are away at the African Cup of Nations, while Nicklas Bendtner (groin), Kieran Gibbs (foot), Robin van Persie (ankle) and Johan Djourou (knee) remain out.
Owen Coyle has an almost fully-fit squad to choose from as Bolton prepare to take on Arsenal for the second time in four days.
With his players having come through the first game against the Gunners – Coyle’s first in charge – without suffering any injuries, the manager is only missing Dan Shittu in the short-term, who is away with Nigeria in Angola.
Long-term injury victims Joey O’Brien and Sean Davis (both knee) are the other players who will not be available for the trip to north London.
Liverpool v Tottenham (20:00)
Liverpool forward Babel has been restored to the squad by Rafael Benitez after apologising to the manager.
The Holland international found himself in trouble at the club after revealing on his Twitter page last Friday that he had not been included in the party for the match at Stoke the following day.
However, the frustrated Dutchman has accepted his error and will now fight for a place in the squad to face Tottenham at home on Wednesday.
“He came to my office and apologised,” said Benitez.
“He knows he has made a mistake and for me that is enough and I don’t need to talk too much about this.
“Ryan will be in the squad because we have 20 players ready for the training session so it (selection) is between these 20 players.”
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp wants his side to be the big beneficiaries of the recent cold snap when they travel to Anfield to face a Liverpool side without Fernando Torres or Steven Gerrard.
Spurs were due to face their rivals for a Champions League place earlier in the month but the match was postponed due to snow, with Gerrard and Torres then suffering injuries in the FA Cup defeat to Reading.
Redknapp’s own options have been bolstered by the return of Jamie O’Hara as the Premier League’s transfer embargo for Portsmouth meant the midfielder could not re-register on loan at Fratton Park.
“I’d be lying if I stood here and said that the absence of Gerrard and Torres won’t matter,” said Redknapp.
“Of course, they are two world-class players, and they will miss them.
“But they have a strong squad. I have never been there and had an easy game. It is a difficult place to go.”
