Ipswich Town striker Pablo Counago gave Coventry City a lesson in timing to earn a place in the Championship team of the week. The Spaniard, who signed from Malaga in 2007, struck back in the seventh minute of stoppage after Richard Wood had hit a dramatic equaliser just a minute earlier – despite the fourth official showing only four minutes of stoppage time.
Roy Keane’s side have drawn 13 times in 25 games this season but Counago’s winner granted Ipswich a much-needed win and further lifted the Blues away from the drop zone.
Counago lines up in this week’s team alongside Crystal Palace hit-man Victor Moses, who has scored six times in his last eight games, including in Palace’s 1-0 away win against Plymouth Argyle.
Midfielder Grant Leadbitter is the second Ipswich player to make the grade, while Michael O’Connor’s superb finish earned strugglers Scunthorpe United a much-needed point against high-flying Cardiff City.
Sheffield Wednesday’s Jermaine Johnson, whose 21st minute winner gave Alan Irvine the perfect start to life as Sheffield Wednesday boss, and Paul Hartley, who bossed the midfield in Bristol City’s 4-2 thriller against Preston North End, complete the line-up across the middle.
Garry Monk is the first name on the team-sheet in the back four after Swansea City kept out play-off chasing Leicester City while Chris Morgan was the key man in Sheffield United 1-0 win over Middlesbrough.
James O’Connor and Damion Stewart, from Doncaster Rovers and Queens Park Rangers respectively, complete the back four.
And Lee Camp continued his heroics in the Nottingham Forest goal with an inspired second-half performance to secure his position between the sticks.
